On Wednesday the Y3/4 Tag Rugby Team travelled to Picknalls First School in Uttoxeter, to take part in a seven schools rugby tournament. With no subs and six games to play, the amazing eight won their first game against Springcroft, before drawing the next three and winning the fifth game against St Giles. Entering their last game, against St Werburghs undefeated, the team played to all their strengths, defensive tagging and running some fantastic lines to score three tries. However St Werburghs managed to claw back five tries to take the victory. Overall the team came in fourth place, only beaten by the tournament winners! A brilliant effort and a fabulous afternoon was enjoyed by all the participants and spectators.

Grace Ansell, whose grandad is currently having treatment at Douglas Macmillan, wanted to do some fundraising and came up with an idea with her friends. Over the last couple of weeks they have been holding a raffle with prizes that have been donated by themselves. They have raised an amazing £106.21. Wow! Grace said “I didn’t believe we could raise so much money, I want to thank my friends for helping and to all those that have given so generously”.

At the CADSSA Y5/6 swimming gala our Great Wood team performed brilliantly. There were individual successes and fab team work in the relay races. The school was ably supported by our parents who cheered along all morning. The children did themselves very proud and were pleased with the final results. The girls did fantastically coming sixth, the boys achieved an amazing second place which meant overall we can fifth, leading the celebrations for all our friends across the MAT. Well done swimmers!

During an afternoon of pulsating rugby the children attacked with a flourish and defended doggedly to record one draw and seven wins, remaining undefeated through the tournament. The spectating parents were overjoyed with the final result as were the rest of the school when they heard the good news. Congratulations to all those involved, a very memorable afternoon!

Lots of fun was had by our children, as they all took part in our famous egg hunt. The children were put into teams and searched the school grounds for clues to solve our Easter puzzle. There were even mini chocolate eggs to find along the way. The victorious team received yummy chocolate rabbits and every child was given a chocolate Easter lolly. Great puzzle solving Great Wood!

Our reception children enjoy their muddy morning's in our woodland area. They enjoyed making homes for woodland creatures, out of leaves, sticks and mud, playing hide and seek, taking part in acting out a traditional tale. They then had their snack and milk whilst having a story. Great fun was had by everyone.

On Wednesday 3rd April, we were extremely fortunate to be able to take our year 6 children to the theatre to see War Horse. The children were transfixed by the mastery of the puppeteers and in awe of their performance. Our children had an amazing time and are very grateful to the National theatre who supplied the tickets.
