We are extremely proud of our KS2 children, who produced a fantastic production of Aladdin Trouble a panto like no other, under the expert guidance of our amazing Mrs Roberts. The cast displayed fabulous talent, from Aladdin and Jasmine, our magical genie, the wicked Abanazer and his hysterical side kick Wantu and of course our dame of the show Widow Twanky. They raised the roof with a spectacular show, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all their audiences. Well done KS2!

On Wednesday 3rd July the Cheadle Academy hosted their annual sports awards and another successful night was had by all! Pupils from across the TMPF were joined by Cheadle Primary school and Cheadle Academy students to celebrate the sport that goes on across the schools. Awards included: Outstanding Pupil, Most Enthusiastic Pupil and Team of the Year Award. Our Outstanding winners were Grace and Ethan with the Most Enthusiastic going to Karleigh and Alfie. The pleasing surprise of the evening was the award for Team of the Year. Mr Jamieson, the Principal at TCA, slowly opened the golden envelope and announced that the 2019 Team of the Year was Great Wood! The pupils were genuinely shocked and surprised, however a speech had been prepared just in case and this was read out by Ethan and Grace. They thanked the voting panel and everyone who has helped them to receive this award. A buffet followed the awards ceremony and a wonderful evening was toasted with a round of sandwiches and biscuits! Thanks to Mrs Evans for co-ordinating a fabulous celebration of all the local sport.

Great Wood took a strong team to the Athletics and they did very well, coming a respectable fourth overall out of eight schools. We had plenty of individual successes with lots of finishes in the top three. Stand out competitors were Grace, who bossed her 800m run from start to finish and we can officially claim to be the KS2 Bean Bag race champions after winning all four races, well done to Ethan, Harrison, Summer and Karleigh. Thanks to those parents that came to support and cheer the pupils on - a brilliant, sunny event that was enjoyed by all!

Royal British Legion guests were invited to watch the Summer Production of ‘Aladdin’ and enjoy an afternoon tea. Pupils entertained them with some wonderful songs, pantomime jokes and dazzling, colourful costumes! Members of the RBL thought it was fantastic and praised the pupils and staff for putting on such a fun, engaging play. Following the show, members of the cast served tea, coffee and a plethora of delightful afternoon tea treats. The fruit loaf was very well received and plenty of praise was heaped on Lesley and Jan for the delicious servings. A wonderful afternoon was had by all!

On Tuesday 25th June, our KS2 pupils became archaeologists for the day as they explored the Roman world at the Dewa Museum in Chester. The pupils marched through the streets of Chester as Roman Legionaries, chanting as they went and bravely carrying their shields. They had to practice soldier drills, protect themselves from Barbarian attack and even endured a gruesome gladiator battle in the amphitheatre! As ever the pupil’s behaviour was brilliant and the museum commented on how respectful and knowledgeable the pupils were. A wonderful way to enhance the learning for our topic and make it a memorable day out.

Our Reception and Year One children enjoyed a trip to Peak Wildlife Park. They visited lots of animals including llamas, otters, meercats, goats and the giant tortoise. They also had a talk about and visit to the penguins, where they watched feeding time and learnt about the individual penguins. All the children were treated to a delicious ice-cream (despite the rain)! On the way back to the coach the children visited the gift shop, where they purchased an amazing array of wildlife products!

On Wednesday the Y3/4 Tag Rugby Team travelled to Picknalls First School in Uttoxeter, to take part in a seven schools rugby tournament. With no subs and six games to play, the amazing eight won their first game against Springcroft, before drawing the next three and winning the fifth game against St Giles. Entering their last game, against St Werburghs undefeated, the team played to all their strengths, defensive tagging and running some fantastic lines to score three tries. However St Werburghs managed to claw back five tries to take the victory. Overall the team came in fourth place, only beaten by the tournament winners! A brilliant effort and a fabulous afternoon was enjoyed by all the participants and spectators.

Children in year 2 have visited the Valley at Oakamoor's Forest School for the first of their 4 sessions. Forest school gives children the opportunity to learn hands on in a woodland environment. They played games and took part in activities which support their learning, including making dens, using tools, making shelters and creative environment art.
