It is with sadness that we learnt of the passing of Keith Hollins, former Headteacher and Executive Principal of The Cheadle Academy and Westwood College (amongst others), and CEO of the Staffordshire University Academies Trust.
Keith kindly offered advice and support as we formed The Moorlands Primary Federation and through his co-founding of the South Moorlands Schools Learning Community, created many positive opportunities for schools throughout our area.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

We are delighted to start the new school year with plenty of smiles!
Although we were sad to see some of our pupils leave us in the summer and head off for exciting new adventures, we are happy to welcome lots of new superstars, who have joined all of the other superstars in the St. Werburgh's family!
Already, they are showing our motto of: 'Love to learn, love God, love one another.'

As the Olympic Games make a start in Tokyo on 23rd July, we are thrilled and very excited that one of our superstars is currently one of the fastest swimmers of his age in England!
Noah, one of our spectacular Year 6 children, is a very talented swimmer and has been training hard to continue to improve his skills in the pool. Courtesy of his club submitting his times into a national programme, he is currently ranked in an amazing second place for the 100m Butterfly, and an incredible 1st place nationally for the 200m backstroke!
His brilliance is the pool has also been recognised by others as he has also been chosen for the Staffordshire ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) County Development programme and the regional programme for Swim England! Great work, Noah!
The whole team are very, very, very proud of Noah and are sure that you join us in looking forward to seeing him dazzling us all in the Olympics in 2030 and 2034!

We are delighted to welcome a new addition to the school.
Odelia, a wire fairy created by local artist and parent, Daniel Powner (of Wire Art by Daniel), has been kindly donated to school by the Powner family.
Odelia, or ‘gift from God’ reflects our school motto wonderfully and is a beautiful piece of art which we look forward to proudly displaying in school.

The St. Werburgh's and TMPF family are sending our very best wishes and good luck to the England team as they play Italy in the final of Euro 2020 this evening.
The match represents the first international football final for England in a whopping 55 years, since the day (also in July, and also at Wembley Stadium!), when we played West Germany (now Germany) and lifted the World Cup!
The match is such a special and significant occasion and we know that many, many members of the school family will be cheering them on!
The team have been training and based at St. George's Park, in our very own beautiful county of Staffordshire.
We are very proud of what Gareth Southgate and the players have achieved and hope that, "It's Coming Home!".
Come on England!

Children in our three youngest classes were full of smiles today, as they enjoyed a special treat with a ‘Day at the Seaside!’.
The playground was transformed into ‘Kingsley Pier’ and activities also took part in the hall and classroom as the team organised a special day of seaside-fun at a time when guidelines make it challenging to take trips out as a Key Stage or school.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed traditional seaside games, including a tin-can alley, hoopla, hook-a-duck, pin a tail on the donkey, a coconut shy and more! They also had the chance to be photographed with their head peeking through a cardboard cut-out!
To continue the day, children enjoyed a special picnic-style lunch, ate ice-lollies, and even made their very own windmills, key-rings and other artistic crafts.
Each class also learnt their very own traditional British summer song, with Reception singing ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’; Year 1 enjoying ‘Zip-a-dee-doo-dah’; and Year 2 mastering Sir Cliff’s legendary hit, ‘Summer Holiday’!
During the afternoon, classes took it in turns to go to a special show in the theatre (hall), where they were entertained by a wonderful magician, Dickie Bow!
The day finished with each child taking home their very own stick of rock as a souvenir of their ‘trip’!
Many thanks to the PTA for the generous support and to the children for bringing so many smiles!
We may not be able to go to the seaside together at the moment…but we can still have a special day of fun!

Sporting fun descended upon our field today, as the children enjoyed a socially-distanced Sports Day!
Seeing all of the children laughing, smiling and participating in sporting events on the field, although remaining in their ‘bubbles’, was wonderful and helped to once again celebrate our school community.
Each class remained together and away from all others in our series of events, with equipment cleaned between group use.
Our Sports Day featured six different activities with children all competing at the same time in a carousel of events with the scores recorded as they continued. This maintained the new-look event started in 2019, re-designed for the children, so that they were all busy scoring points for their team and being active throughout, rather than one race taking place at a time. It also allowed children to enjoy taking part in lots of events and scoring points.
To keep everyone safe and following the advice of the Local Authority in the light of such high cases of the Covid-19 Delta Variant in our county, this year’s event took place with just the children and staff on site. The young stars had lots of fun and were full of smiles!
Congratulations to all who took part and helped their team. Our winner with 1000points was...St. Chad's team!

In school today, we celebrated England’s Euro 2020 semi-final v Denmark with a Red and White day.
All children and staff were invited to come to school in non-uniform and have a celebration of what turned out to be England’s first competitive semi-final win in 55 years!
It is amazing to see so many people across the country join in with the excitement of such a special sporting, social and cultural event and to be proud of our nation.
Next up is the final on Sunday v Italy!
Fingers crossed that, to quote Skinner, Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds, “It’s coming home!”
