Floral Tribute to Queen Elizabeth

Floral Tribute to Queen Elizabeth

On Sunday a small number of staff from St Werburgh's travelled to London to lay flowers on behalf of our school community, in memory of our lovely Queen. Our flowers were placed in Green Park.

The message read:

'We would like to thank Queen Elizabeth for her service to our country. Much of our learning has been about the Queen this year and we are very sad to hear of her passing. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.'

QUEEN ELIZABETH II

QUEEN ELIZABETH II

We join the rest of the nation, Commonwealth and wider world in mourning the remarkable Queen Elizabeth II who sadly passed away on Thursday 8th September.

Queen Elizabeth has been part of all of our lives for 70 years, and in addition to being the longest reigning monarch to have served our country, she has also provided care, strength and hope in times of worry.

Her loss leaves us all feeling sad and marks a special time in the history of our nation.

As a proud Church school, we also mourn the passing of the Head of the Church of England and a lady with such incredible Christian faith.

We remember Her Majesty with the utmost fondness, admiration, and affection and send the very best wishes, love, thoughts and prayers to King Charles III and his family.

We may feel sad that she has passed, but as a school and Trust family, we celebrate in the memories which she leaves, the example of humility which she set, and the 70 years dedicated to serving the nation she so loved.

God Bless The Queen.

Learning how to save lives! Learning how to save lives!

Learning how to save lives!

Our Key Stage 2 pupils have completed a ‘mini-medics’ course in school.

Mrs Arnott, a parent of two of our fabulous children, and a first aid specialist and trainer, trained Years 3-6 with techniques and skills which can help to save lives. All of our mini-medics learnt how - and when - to use CPR and to put people in the recovery position.

These are such important skills (which we hope they will never need) which we thrilled to have been able to show the pupils of St. Werburgh’s.

...love one another.

Easter Service in School

Easter Service in School

As we reach the end of the spring term, we prepare for Easter: the most special time for Christians and the time at which we remember the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and the sacrifice which God made for us. It was a real delight to welcome Rev. Sue into school on Thursday to lead us, alongside the Worship Council, in our Easter Service. Rev. Sue also very kindly brought into school a palm cross for each child. This Sunday is Palm Sunday, which is the start of Holy Week (which the children will be able to talk about). Throughout the week, amongst other events, we also remember Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Rev. Sue will be leading a number of Services in church at this time and you would all be warmly welcome to be part of the congregation.

PTA Thanks

PTA Thanks

Many thanks to those who were able to take part in (and donate prizes towards) the Covid-safe PTA Easter Raffle and support the non-uniform day to raise finds for our wonderful PTA.

The money raised goes towards supporting the children in school through festive treats, library books, subsidising of school trips and much more.

We also really appreciate the generosity of the PTA in very kindly buying each child in school an Easter egg/ end-of-term treat.

Thanks to our fabulous PTA for your ongoing hard work, time and dedication, it is really appreciated.

Helping those affected by conflict

School would like to thank so many families and friends for the generous donations to help those affected by the current conflict in Ukraine.

The amount of items donated was heart-warming and truly reflected the kindness, thoughtfulness and love of our school family. Your gestures will make a difference to the lives of many. Thank you.

May we also take this opportunity to thank Mrs and Mr Wright, and Leek School of Dance for not only offering to receive the goods from us, but also for being kind enough to collect them.

...love one another.

Best Kept Village

Best Kept Village

To support our lovely community, a number of children have entered a competition for the community-led ‘Best Kept Village’ competition. The themes are ‘Best Kept Village’ and the ‘Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’, and children entered with either a picture or a poem. We all love the villages surrounding our school and enjoy keeping them nice and tidy.

Collecting donations to help those suffering through conflict.

Collecting donations to help those suffering through conflict.

As a school family, we join everyone across the world in sending love to all affected by the current conflict in Ukraine.

To support those whose lives have been impacted upon by the conflict, we are proud to be able to offer families and members of our community a chance to donate goods to those in need.

If you wish to help, we would welcome:
medical supplies (in date), bandages, toiletries, sanitary products, nappies, blankets (clean), tinned food (preferably with a ring pull), dried pasta, and dog and cat food.

Please can any donations arrive in school no later than Thursday 7th April.

Thanks to Leek School of Dance who have very kindly offered to receive these on behalf of Leek and Cheddleton Aid Support for Ukraine.

We have all been touched by the stories reported from the region and by the plight of so many refugees for whom we pray.

At this time, we also reflect upon the final two elements of our Trust values:
Peace and Friendship, and the final part of our school motto: ...love one another.
