Local sporting opportunities for your child

As part of our ongoing commitment to promote healthy and active lifestyles, we are delighted to share details of an exciting free event open to pupils in our lovely schools and beyond.

Funded by the Staffordshire Moorlands District council and organised and led by Accelerate Learning Services in partnership with the Schools Sports Partnership, James Bateman Junior High and South Moorlands Leisure centre, the event is for families and young people to discover what’s available to do in their local area, support and promote clubs and organisations and increase the number of people moving more every day.

This is a free event and open to all. There will be stalls providing information, activities to take part in, 'have a go sessions’ and more.

A range of local sporting clubs will be there to let you know how your child can become involved so they can learn new skills, make new friends and be more active.

Welcoming the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Snake

Our wonderful school came together to celebrate a very important cultural event: the Chinese New Year.

Pupils from each class worked on a variety of art and design tasks, completing pieces linked to the New Year celebrations, including dragons, parasols and more.

Children also enjoyed watching the cooking of some Chinese food...and then sampling some too!

During the morning, our wonderful Year 6 pupils even completed reading comprehension tasks based on this very special event.

Pupils perform to an audience of thousands in Birmingham

ELEVEN pupils from Dilhorne Endowed C.E. Primary School joined friends from four of the Trust sister schools to form The Moorlands Primary Federation (TMPF) combined choir and sing in the Young Voices concert in Birmingham.

More than one hundred pupils from across TMPF were part of a 6,000-strong choir of school children performing to thousands of audience members at the BP Pulse Live arena, singing a selection of songs including: ‘Try Everything’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Oceania’ and, to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 80th birthday: ‘One Love’.

Kim Gagliano, class teacher, said, “The children had an enjoyable time performing at ‘Young Voices’ alongside the other schools within TMPF last year, and we were delighted to be able to provide that opportunity again. The concert is a special event for all those involved and is something which the children and families will remember for a long time.”

TMPF Music Leader, Mandi Whiteley, who co-ordinated TMPF’s participation in the event, added, “Bringing together children from five schools to become one choir is lovely to see. They have all worked so hard to learn the songs. To then join thousands of other children from across the Midlands and beyond, and perform as superbly as they did in Birmingham, was a very special achievement.

“We are so proud of each of them for representing their school and The Moorlands Primary Federation so wonderfully and singing so beautifully.”

Parent Trustee Vacancies

Do you want to play a part in the decision-making of The Moorlands Primary Federation?

Would you like to represent parents and carers on The Moorlands Primary Federation Trust Board?

The Moorlands Primary Federation, the Multi Academy Trust of which school is part, has vacancies for two Parent Trustees.

The two posts are open to consideration for any current parent within our family of nine schools and are offered on a voluntary basis.

As a member of the Trust Board, the Parent Trustee will represent all of the parents/ carers and help to guide the strategic direction of all nine schools within The Moorlands Primary Federation, not solely the school at which their child/children attend.

Full Trust Board meetings ordinarily take place four times per year at 6.00pm: comprising of an AGM in September, plus one termly meeting. Trustees are also encouraged to join a Committee which meets termly. Attendance at a number of these meetings could be undertaken remotely. The Parent Trustee has a four-year period of office and fulfils the role of a Director of the Multi Academy Trust.

If you would like to be considered for one of the posts, please contact TMPFtrustee@tmpf.staffs.sch.uk for further details, or speak with the school office.

Reading is cool...at our Primary School!

Dilhorne Endowed C.E. celebrated World Book Day with a range of beautiful costumes and also by developing children’s love of poetry.

To share the joy of reading different text types, children enjoyed talking about books, reading books and dressing up as some of their favourite characters.

To build our school’s love of poetry, staff took to the mic and celebrated poetry through rap!

At Dilhorne Endowed C.E. Primary, we love to read…and now rap too!

Helping parents/carers to keep children safe online

Many children were lucky enough to have received exciting presents for Christmas which offer them access to the internet and the online world.

As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, prior to Christmas we sent a link to all parents/carers for parental guides to many of these devices, just to offer a little more insight into how they are used, and also how they could be a risk if not managed properly.

Over the course of the year, we will share information on different online platforms and devices, including the necessary age restrictions, so parents and carers can be informed and continue to support their children with ways to stay safe.
