Choosing the right school is an important, tricky and very exciting decision to make.

Starting school…how exciting!
As a Trust, we warmly welcome visits to any of our schools as they are all quite different to one another. We fully appreciate the difficulty of the decision about which school to choose and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Great Wood Primary School offer Open Morning/ Open Afternoon events for parents/carers to come along, see the school, chat to the staff and most importantly, meet some of the amazing children. Changing to one of our primary schools.
If you are looking to change primary schools and are considering one of the schools within The Moorlands Primary Federation (TMPF) Multi-Academy Trust, please contact us on 01538 702355. We are proud to work closely with other local schools and after discussions between all parties, if it is found that a move to one of our seven schools is the best decision, we will always aim to make this as smooth as possible.

Heading off to secondary school!
Choosing the right primary school isn’t the only school-application-decision you have to make - there comes a time when children begin Year 6 and parents have to do it all over again…but this time for secondary school!

The primary schools within TMPF have very strong links to local secondary schools and a number of children have joined a range of these of these.

On a regular basis, we work very closely with The Cheadle Academy and children attend transition events here from Year 1 upwards! 

In addition to The  Cheadle Academy, we also have good links with Moorside High School, and with Painsley Catholic College as a number of our children want to continue a faith-based education.

Over recent years, our Trust of schools have also sent children to Blythe Bridge High School, Denstone College, Thomas Alleyne’s High School and other state and private secondary schools both locally and further afield.

Whichever secondary school you choose will offer transition days and events, and here at The Moorlands Primary Federation, we will happily support your child’s attendance at these to ease their move to secondary education… wherever that may be.

How much is a school dinner?

School dinners currently cost £2.60 per day (as of 18th April 2023) for a main meal and dessert.

The cost of these nutritious meals should be paid on Mondays for the week in advance (you are able to choose if you wish for your child to receive school meals on certain days and not the whole week). Payment is requested to be made via the Arbor system (details available from the school office). Any cheques should be made payable to: ‘The Moorlands Primary Federation’.

Children in the Foundation Stage (Reception) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) are entitled to a free school meal each day through the Universal Free School Meal scheme. If your child is in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), they may, of course, purchase a meal, or they may even be entitled to a free school meal too, please click here for further information, or speak to the school office.

Parents of ANY child from Reception to Year 6 can apply for free school meals and with this, also benefit from additional funding (Pupil Premium) to support your child's learning. For information on whether your child is eligible for free school meals (and, therefore, additional funding), click here.

Dinners are provided by an organisation called Edwards and Ward. A menu for the week is available at the bottom of the page.  Special themed menus and celebrations happen at different points throughout the year to replace the planned menu. Please be aware that the menu is subject to change at short notice.

It is extremely important that you inform us and our school meal providers, Edwards and Ward, of any allergies/ intolerances that your child has should they currently eat a school meal, or wish to start eating a school meal.

 If you believe your child has an allergy/food intolerance please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Pupils are expected to dress smartly and to wear school uniform in all school activities. We feel it gives the children a sense of belonging and encourages equality amongst their peers.

Uniform
- Black plain Skirt, or Trousers, or Pinafore Dress;
- *Summer Uniform extra option: navy blue and white checked/ gingham dress; or black school shorts;
- Plain white shirt/ blouse with school tie;
- Navy blue cardigan or v-necked sweatshirt ideally with the school logo;
- Plain black socks; or black tights (*white socks with summer checked/gingham dress).
-  Optional coat with the school logo.

*Optional Summer uniform may be worn from the Easter holiday onwards

Footwear
- Suitable and appropriate black footwear must be worn. No large or high heels, no sandals (even in summer), no heelies, no boots and no trainers may be worn in school.
- However, in poor weather, boots may, of course, be worn for children walking to and from school, but these must be changed upon arrival as they are not part of the school uniform.

P.E. Kit
Training shoes for outdoors.
Pumps for indoors.
Navy shorts.                      
Navy PE t-shirt, ideally with school logo.
Navy tracksuit.
Great Wood-branded hooded sweatshirt (Optional)

For Swimming
Swimwear must be appropriate for each child.
- One-piece Swimsuit (all girls to wear), or trunks (no long shorts);
- Swimming cap (compulsory for all children with longer hair);
- Towel;
- Please bring swimming kit in a waterproof bag;
- Earrings, or any other form of jewellery are not permitted in any P.E. lesson (including Swimming).

Jewellery should not be worn for P.E. or swimming.

Team Kit
When representing their school, children will be provided with the appropriate kit for inter-school matches and competitions. We kindly request that any used kit is washed and returned to school (in a bag bearing your child’s name) at your earliest convenience, so it may be used for the next team/ fixtures.

Art and Craft
Protective clothing (such as an old shirt) may be recommended by the class teacher.

NB – Parents/carers with children with medical conditions may contact school to agree uniform variations. 

Uniform containing logos is available is available from 'Something Special', ST10 1AB, t: 01538 752840. Please do not have your child's initials embroidered onto the outside of any uniform or kit.

Support for Uniform
We are proud to support our school community. As such, we have a ‘used uniform scheme’ which stocks a small selection of uniform items and is available to all families.
